Alkaben, president of her SHG in Panchtad village, joined Sakhi Mandal, an SHG initiative by LBCT, in March 2020. Although she worked in a company nearby, the work and subsequently remuneration was erratic. Therefore, she wished to start her own business. Her SHG, with 15 members and savings of Rs 100 per month, saved enough money for her to borrow Rs 5000 to start her small grocery store. With time, she increased her investment and made around Rs. 700 per day, out of which Rs 400-500 was her profit. Alkaben feels financially more secure and is able to contribute her family’s income and support her children’s education.
